Mottled Dungarees

Size: for 3/6 months and 9/12 months. Directions for the smaller size are before the stroke, with larger sizes behind. lf there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes. AII measurements are in centimeters (cm), For approximate inch saes simply multiply by 0.4 (or divide by 2,54).

Materials: yarn Schachenmayr, quality Bravo Baby, 100(150) g #181 mottled confetti, and 50 g #170 green. 2-3 mm (size 0-3) and 2.75-3.75 mm (size 2 – 4) Milward needles and same size Milward circular needles 40 cm long or double pointed needles, or size to obtain gauge.

Weft pattern: alt. K2, P2.
Stockinet stitch (st-st): K RS rows; P WS rows; in rounds K all sts.
Gauge: 24 sts. and 36 rows st-st, each to 10 cm [4’’] on 2.75-3-75 mm needles.

METHOD

For one leg cast on 58(62) sts. green on 2-3 mm needles and work 2 cm welt patt, starting with 1 WS row. With the 2.75-3.75 mm needles cont with mottled confetti st-st, inc 2 sts. evenly across 1st row for size 3/6 months only = 60(64) sts. At the same time inc 1 st. at each end alt. on every 4th and 6th row 7 times = 74(78) sts.

When work measures 13(15) cm bind off for crotch at each end of every 2nd row 3 sts. once, 2 sts. once and 1 st. twice, then slip rem 60(64) sts. onto a hoder = work measures 15(17) cm. Work 2nd leg alike. With the 2.75-3.75 mm double-pointed needes or circular needle work in rounds over both legs = 120(128) sts. When work measures 34(38) cm cont in welt patt in green on 2-3 mm circular or doublepoinied needles, starting round at center back wlth P1 (K1, P2), then alt K2, P2. When work measures 36(40) cm work armhole shaping as foll: from center back work 24(26) in patt, bind off 12; For front work 48(52) in patt and slip onto a holder, bind off 12, and work rem 24(26) in patt. Cont over these 48(52) sts. for back; RS row now starts wiтh edge st., K2 and ends in reverse. When work measures 40(44) cm bind off 32(36) sts. at center and finish each side sep. Work another 12(14) cm even over the 8 sts. on either side for straps, then bind off all sts. Cont even over the 48(52) sts. for front. When work measures 38.5(42.5) cm, make 1 buttonhole on either side as foll: at beg of row work edge st. and K1, then a slip dec (= slip 1 kniiwise, K1, pass slipped st. over), yarn-over, then K2 tog; work to 6 from end of row and work 2nd buttonhole alike. On next row work K1 and K1 tbl into yarn-overs.

When work measures 40(44) cm bind off all sts.

Finishing: block piece to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Close leg and crotch seams. Sew on buttons
