Size: to fit bust 82/86 cm [32"/34"], 92/97 cm [36"/38"] and 102/107 cm [40"/42"]. Directions for the smaller size are before the stroke, with larger sizes behind. If there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes. All measurements are in centimeters (cm). For approximate inch sizes simply multiply by 0.4 (or divide by 2.54).
Materials: 350(400/450) g yarn Schachenmayr, quality Catania, #00106 white.
2.75-3.75 mm [size 2-5] Milward needles and one 2.5-3 mm [size C/2-D/3] Milward crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.
Double cast-on
Basic pattern: on RS and WS rows work foll chart A; start as given, rep motif of 4 sts. throughout, end as given. Patt is given as sts. appear on RS of work. Read RS rows from right to left, and WS rows from left to right. Rep rows 1-12 throughout.
Gauge: 19-20 sts. and 32 rows basic patt, each to 10 cm [4"] on 2.75-3.75 mm needles.
METHOD
Back: cast on 84(92/104) sts. with the double cast-on method, then cont in basic patt. When work measures 51(51/52.5) cm (= 163(163/169 rows) bind off all sts.
Front: proceed as for back. When work measures 30.5(30.5/32) cm (= 97(97/103) rows) bind off 6 sts. at center for v-neck and cont each side sep over 39(43/49) sts. each. At the same time dec 2 sts. beside the bound-off center sts. on every 6th row 10 times as foll: to dec over left shoulder work edge st., then K4 tog, cont in patt as given; over right shoulder work to 5 from edge st., then a slip dec knitwise over 4 sts., edge st. The first decreases for neck shaping are given in chart B. When work measures 51(51/52.5) cm (= 163(163/169) rows) altog, bind off rem 19(23/29) sts. on either side for shoulders.
Sleeves (both alike): cast on 72(76/80) sts. with the double cast-on method, then cont in basic patt. When work measures 30.5 cm (= 97 rows) bind off all sts.
Finishing: block pieces to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Join shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in position, close sleeve and side seams. Crochet 1 round sc (UK = dc) around neck edge
