Size: to fit chest 58/61 cm [23"/24"], 65/66 cm [25½"/26"] and 69/71 cm [27"/28"]. Directions for the smaller size are before the stroke, with larger sizes behind. If there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes. All measurements are in centimeters (cm). For approximate inch sizes simply multiply by 0.4 (or divide by 2.54).
Materials: yarn Schachenmayr, quality Catania, 150(150/200) g #00158 rosé. 3-3.75 mm [size 3-5] needles brand Milward, and one long 2.75-3 mm [size C/2-D/3] circular needle 40 cm long, or size to obtain gauge. About 100 cm satin ribbon, 11 mm wide.
Stockinet stitch (st-st): K RS rows; P WS rows.
Garter stitch: K all rows.
Pattern A: even no. of sts.
Row 1 (RS): edge st:, *K2 tog, yarn-over, rep from *, edge st.
Row 2: P all sts. and yarn-overs.
Rows 3-5: st-st.
Row 6 (WS row): edge st., then K2 tog throughout, edge st.
Row 7: edge st., then make 1 knitwise and make 1 knitwise tbl into each st., edge st.
Row 8: P all sts.
Work rows 1-2 once, rows 3-8 three times= 20 rows altog = 6 cm.
Pattern B: on RS rows work foll chart for patt B, after edge st. rep motif of 8 sts. throughout. On WS rows P all sts. and
yarn-overs.
Size 58/61: work rows 1-12 once, then rows 1-8 once = 20 rows = 6 cm.
Size 65/66: work rows 1-12 twice, then rows 1-8 once = 32 rows = 9.5 cm.
Size 69/71: work rows 1-12 three times = 36 rows = 11 cm.
Pattern C: any no. of sts.
Rows 1-3: stockinet stitch (st-st):
Row 4: K all sts.
Size 58/61: work rows 1-4 seven times = 28 rows altog = 8.5 cm.
Size 65/66: work rows 1-4 eight times = 32 rows altog = 9.5 cm.
Size 69/71: work rows 1-4 nine times = 36 rows altog = 11 cm.
Gauge: 20 sts. and 33 rows patts A, B and C, each to 10 cm [4"].
METHOD
Chart for Pattern B
Back: for the flounce cast on 194(218/ 242) sts. on 3-3.75 mm needles, K 1 WS row, then cont in st-st. When work measures 4 cm work 1 WS row as foll: edge st., P3 tog 64(72/80) times, edge st. = 66(74/82) sts. Cont in patt A 20 rows = 6 cm, garter stitch 4 rows = 1 cm, patt B 20(32/36) rows = 6(9.5/11) cm, garter stitch 4 rows = 1 cm, patt C 28(32/36) rows = 8.5(9.5/11) cm, then cont in st-st. When work measures 20.5(24/25.5) cm, or after 2.5 cm (= 8 rows) patt C bind off at each end for armholes 3 sts. once, then on every 2nd row 2 sts. 1(2/3) times, 1 st. twice and 1 st. on every 4th row 3 times. At the same time, when work measures 26.5(31/34) cm, or after the last row patt C, slip 26(26/30) sts. at center onto a holder for neck and cont each side sep. At neck edge bind off 1 st. on every 2nd row twice, then 1 st. on 4th foll row once. Cont in st-st over the 7(9/9) sts. on either side for straps, and when work measures 35.5(40/43) cm altog bind off all sts.
Front: proceed as for back. Total height of work = 35.5(40/43) cm.
Finishing: block pieces to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Sew straps tog. Pick up 84(90/ 96) sts. around each armhole edge on 2.75-3 mm circular needle and K 1 WS row. Then bind off all sts. purlwise. Close side seams. For neck band pick up with the 2.75-3 mm circular needle and K26(26/30) sts. Off holder along neck back, 46 sts. Along adjoining edge of strap, K26(26/30) along neck front and pick up 46 sts. along strap, then P 1 round over 144(144/152) sts., then bind off all sts. knitwise. Gather patt C tog at center front with the satin ribbon, make into a bow, see photo.
