Baby’s mottled jacket

Size: fof 3/6 months and 9/12 months. Directions for the smaller size are before the stroke, with larger sizes behind. lf there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes. AII measurements are in centimeters (cm), For approximate inch saes simply multiply by 0.4 (or divide by 2,54).

Materials: yarn Schachenmayr, qualiiy Bravo Baby, 100(150)g #181 mottled contetti. 2.75-3.75 mm [size 2-4] Milward needles, or size to obtain gauge. Accessories: 4(5) buttons.

Garter stitch: K all rows.
Stockinet stitch (st-st): K RS rows; P WS rows, in rounds K all sts.
Eyelet panel: no. of sts. Mult of 6 + 2 edge sts.
Row 1 (RS): K, working 3 yarn overs after each st.
Row 2: edge st., *slip 6 onto the RH needle, letting yarn-overs slide off the needle and pulling sts. up. Now slip the first 3 slipped sts. over the last 3 slipped sts. with the LH needle, then slip rem 3 sts, also onto LH needle, then K6 in order, rep from *, edge st.
Gauge: 24 sts. and 36 rows st-st, and 24 sts. and 46 rows garter stitch, each to 10 cm [4’’]. The 2 rows eyelet panel = about 1.5 cm in high.

METHOD

Work front and back in one piece up to armholes. Cast on 122(146) sts. and work 7 rows garter stitch, 2 rows eyelet panel and 8 rows garter stitch = 5 cm, then 8(10) cm st-st, 6 rows garter stitch, 2 rows eyelet panel, cont in garter stitch.

When work measures 13(15)cm, on 1st row garter stitch, divide work for amholes as foll:
on RS row work 31(37) in patt, cast on 1 edge st. anew and cont over these 32(38) sts. for right front in patt as given. When work measures 23(25) cm bind off at left edge for neck 6(8) sts. once, then on every 2nd row 3 sts. once, 2 sts. once and 1 st. once. When work measures 26{29) cm bind off rem 20(24) sts. for shoulder. Cont over foll 60(72) sts. for back, casting on 1 edge st. arew at each end = 62(74) sts.  When work measures 26(29) cm bind off 20(24) sts. on a WS row for shoulder, then K22(26) at center for neck, and slip onto a holder, bind off rem 20(24)sts. for shoulder. Cont over the last 31(37)sts. for left front in reverse to right, casting on 1 edge st. anew at start of 1 st RS row = 32(38) sts.

Sleeves (make 2 alike): cast on 38 sts. and work 7 rows garter stitch and 2 rows eyelet panel = 3 cm. Cont in garter stitch. At the same time inc for seeves shaping at each end 1 st. on every 6th row 2(3) times and 1 st. on every 4th row 11(13)times = 64(70) sts. When work measures 16(19) cm bind off all stitches

Finishing: block pieces to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Join shoulder and sleeve seams and sew sleeves in position. Pick up about 54(58) sts- along each front jacket edge for front bands and work 7 rows garter stitch, then bind off all sts. At the same time, on 3rd row make 4(5) buttonhoes into one band as foll: make 1st and last buttonholes each about 2 cm from either end, and rem 2(3) buttonhoes evenly across in between about 6(7) cm apart. For each buttonhole work K2 tog, yarn-over and K2 tog. On foll row work K1 and K1 tbl into yarn over. Pick up about 19(24) sts. along neck edge and the first 3 rows of band of right front, K22(26) off holder and pick up 19 (24) sts. along neck and the first 3 rows of band of left front = 60(74) sts. Work 6 cm garteр stitch, then bind off all sts. loosely. Sew on buttons.
